The principal of operation of an eddy current damper involves a conductor moving in a non-uniform magnetic field created by permanent magnets. The eddy currents induced in the conductor produce a drag-force proportional to the speed. Eddy current dampers also find application in vibration isolation for structures, engine mounts for high performance vehicles, force-feedback devices and industrial motion control.
